  • Lincoln Sharing Christmas – Thank you

    Updated Jan 27, 2021

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and did some fun things together with family and friends. Thank you to all who helped with bringing smiles to our kids and our seniors. Also, for the wonderful food boxes we were able to give out to many this year. Seventy-four kids received some wonderful, nice gifts. The “Angel tree” sure helps. I was able to get “Mr. Banker” and the lovely girls to help get tags out, since the lobby was closed because of COVID. Citizen’s Alliance Bank is much more than a bank. We have some wonderful...

  • Swan Update: Keep Calm and Paddle On

Elaine Caton, Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program Coordinator - Blackfoot Challenge|Updated Jan 27, 2021

In spite of a worldwide pandemic and all the associated changes to human life that have gone with it, I'm happy to report that our Trumpeter Swans have kept calm and carried on with normal swan life in the Blackfoot. Although we only had six pairs of swans attempt to nest this year (following eight attempts in 2019), five of those nests were successful, hatching a total of 20 cygnets. And all 20 cygnets survived to fledging (flying) age! One hundred percent fledging success...

Lincoln's junior high and high school students participate in a Science Circus every two years, and this year, community members can see all the Science Circus projects from the comfort of their homes. Science Circus projects allow students to pick a science law to demonstrate in a fun and engaging way, said Lincoln science teacher Nancy Schwalm. "Normally, we would host it in the gym. It would be like a circus, and the kids are demonstrating some sort of law or phenomenon,"...

  • Amid rough season, illnesses, injuries prompt Lincoln basketball teams to forfeit Seeley, Granite games

    Roger Dey, BVD|Updated Jan 27, 2021

Nagging injuries, COVID-19 and other illnesses prompted Lincoln Athletic Director Shane Brown to sideline the Lincoln basketball teams last week, forfeiting games against Seeley Lake and Granite High schools "The girls and the boys are kind of banged-up and sick, so we don't know if we're going to be able to suit five to start the game," Brown said. Due to concerns about COVID-19, both the boys and girls teams are playing with a bare minimum of players. The girls team has...

  • Letter: Gathering concerns: a response

    Updated Jan 27, 2021

Dear Liz Cain, Your response to my Christmas letter has just been brought to my attention. My first reaction was, aren't you glad that we both live in a free society where we can both express divergent, but open and honest viewpoints? (although that perspective seems to be rapidly disappearing in the stampede to flatten the curve and save the planet. I also believe your letter deserves a response. You took me to task for not following medical guidelines of health care...

Heidi Ressie opened Lincoln Leather and Fur Traders at 206 Main St. in Lincoln this past October and offers a wide variety of goods. An avid lifelong hunter and trapper, Ressie started selling furs out of her home a few years ago. "I grew up all my life around trapping and hunting, and it's just always been in my blood to do," said Ressie, who was raised on a farm. "I grew up with two brothers, so I was kind of a tomboy at the time." When Ressie first moved to Lincoln, she...

  • FWP donation gives Lincoln High School wildlife class insight into Montana's animals

    Kate Radford, BVD|Updated Jan 27, 2021

Lincoln School's wildlife class received a donation of eight wildlife cameras this fall from Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, which helped them to continue their hands-on studies throughout the remote learning process. "We learn by doing rather than book work," science teacher Nancy Schwalm said about the wildlife class. There are nine students in the class, so the donation, combined with two personal cameras Schwalm had, allowed each student to place their own camera to...

The discussion dominated the Jan. 19 meeting, which provided the first opportunity to dig into the details of the maintenance project that was slated for this year. Jim Oly|Updated Jan 26, 2021

Well, here is a little follow up story on Jim and Trooper’s crusade of good cheer that started here in Lincoln on Dec. 6. It was my very first show and it was great being able to see everyone and kick off the holiday season. The following Sunday I headed up to Phillipsburg to play at the nursing home. Trooper and I got set up outside in the garden area while the residents sat inside and listened. I was not sure if they could hear me, but I did see one of the gals inside f...

  • Aging Gracefully

    Tammy Jordan|Updated Jan 26, 2021

This week, I’ll be turning 51. At one point in my life, age was something for me that was difficult to talk about. Now, it’s more of a number that doesn’t have a ton of value in the way I think about it. Twenty years ago, this was not the case. I remember the number, age 30, causing me an incredible amount of anxiety and, believe it or not, a terrible amount of grief. I cried almost the entire year before my 30th birthday. Turns out I was following in my mother’s footste...
