The Montana Heritage House planned to make their new bulk offerings available on Mar 1. The bulk offerings are part of an ongoing effort by the Vallers to bring organic foods to Lincoln at an affordable price. So far, the business has offered a variety of other foods from Montana farmers, including local Mannix beef and steaks, as well as produce, which changes seasonally. "We've been bringing in foods from Montana farmers as much as we can, but we need to expand on some of...

    Roger Dey|Updated Mar 3, 2021

Ponderosa Snow Warriors President Forest Mercill reminds snowmobilers that avalanche safety should be at the forefront of their minds as they head out to ride. "It's a weird, scary year with the ice, and the sugar (snow) and the deep on top of it," he said. According to the Feb. 27 missoulaavalanche.org advisory, there is considerable danger of avalanche as snow conditions across west central Montana include wind slab and persistent weak layers within the snowpack. They recomm...

  • Coments on Congress: Our Country Rests on People Doing the Right Thing

Lee Hamilton, Indiana University Center on Representative Government|Updated Mar 3, 2021

As the events of the past few months have unfolded, I have often found myself wondering what our Founders would have made of it all. Impossible to know, of course, but they had plenty of insight to offer. In particular, I keep returning to these lines from James Madison. He delivered them during the Virginia convention to ratify the Constitution, arguing that the surest safeguard against legislators and a government bent on malfeasance is the people themselves. "I go on this...

  • Letter: Duh!!!

    Updated Mar 3, 2021

In an attempt to block a punt, the defender jumps toward the kicker to block the ball. Untouched, the kicker falls as if struck by lightning. Why? Fool the referee; draw a penalty; defeat the other team. Dishonest, unethical, of course; but winning trumps honesty or integrity. TV announcers cannot call this a "football move": suggestion; call it a: "Democrat move". Anyone observing even five minutes of Democrats impeaching Trump or talking about their fears of fellow...

  • Letter: Thank You for Local Healthcare

    Updated Mar 3, 2021

I wanted to take a moment to write a word of thanks to our local medical folks at the Purview Clinic here in Lincoln. After several months of getting the run-around from doctors in Helena and Missoula, I reached out to the team here in Lincoln, hoping they could help me in some way. They handled things, communicated and were able to get done inside of 24 hours more than any of the "specialists" had been able to help me within six months. I had an appointment there on...

  • Tough weeks remind us what's important

    Tammy Jordan|Updated Mar 3, 2021

I'm not going to lie, last week was a rough one. Two friends came to the end of their lives, another received some discouraging news regarding an ongoing medical issue and yet another was hospitalized. It reminded me how finite life really is. As I've heard other people say, "This is no dress rehearsal. You've only got one life to live, so live it." It struck me like a slap across the face, but there have been little signs of this for the last few months. In December, as I...

  • Hey Howdy hey: Something I believe in

    Jim Oly|Updated Mar 3, 2021

This is not something I normally write about, but it is something I believe in. I have recently been reading a book written by Christian writer Joel Olsteen "You Can, You Will". It got me thinking about my brother. I won't say his name, but he is actually now my last remaining brother out of nine kids in my family. We are down to four; two boys, two girls. My dad died when I was fourteen, so my older brothers are who I looked up to for guidance. And this one brother, well, I...
