  • Blackfoot Valley Fishing Report

    Updated Jul 25, 2018

Fishing is going CRAZY currently. The flow is still above normal. The temperature is still cool [thank you mother nature for making this July cooler than the last several years. Feel free to continue this trend]. Salmonflies were still flying around in the evening as of last week. What????? So guides were still using big ole Chernobyls, and fuzzy leggy ugly things. However we believe a change is in the air. Literally, with smaller flying caddis and size 10 or 12 spruce moths...

    Emily Rundell|Updated Jul 25, 2018

I moved here in 1982, and wanting to be a stay at home mom, I provided daycare in my parents' house until 1983, when I moved in with a friend and continued to provide daycare. I later moved in with Dan Rundell, and continued with the daycare. In January of 1985, I read in the BVD that Lincoln Ambulance was going to be teaching an Advanced First Aid course with CPR Training, and that the training was thru The American Red Cross. Since I was doing daycare, it would be good to...

  • More than just making a buck

Roger Dey, Blackfoot Valley Dispatch|Updated Jul 25, 2018

Occupying their usual spot, just off the main loop in Hooper Park in a campsite among the trees, Leroy and Jean Cyrs' set up, with glittering Rada knives, jams, suspenders and sundry collectibles, is a familiar sight at the Lincoln Flea Market every year. Over the years, the Cyrs have seen trends change and flea markets come and go around the country, but in Lincoln they played a key role in bringing one back to life. Jesse Sallin and Pat Habets started the original Rummage an...

    Updated Jul 25, 2018

Thank you, Bill Cyr, for donating a five days and four nights Summer Pack Trip in the Scapegoat Wilderness for the 2018 LFD Fireman's Ball Auction. I won the bid! We put the word out about the trip to our adult children, and three daughters from Oklahoma said, "Me, Me, Me". On Friday, July 13, we met Billy Cyr and Derek Perez at the Indian Meadows Trail Head. We watched them saddle the horses and load the packs on the five mules. After a briefing from Bill Cyr and a shove to...

When the scoreboard at the Lincoln Gym shorted out during a Jan. 11 home game against Phillipsburg, Lincoln School Athletic Director Laura Bullis broke out a whiteboard to keep score. This summer, the Lincoln School Athletics Department is working to raise $5000 for the purchase of a new set of scoreboards and a controller. The total cost of the new system comes in at around $10,000, Bullis told the BVD. She explained that the scoreboards are old and cause quite a bit of...

The school has been evaluating the options for improving the school's water system since February, after a fitting at the water pump broke in January and flooded the all-purpose building by the football field and caused roughly $50,000 in damage and...

  • Mountaintop Musings: Passing it On!

Community Bible Church of Lincoln|Updated Jul 24, 2018

Well it is Monday morning and it looks to be a beautiful day! I have a fishing expedition to get to with my good friend Jason. But first I have to write this column! Some days it is hard to decide what to “Muse” about. But today it isn’t; I want to share some highlights from the Vacation Bible School we had last week here in Lincoln. There were eight young people who showed up, and two of them were teenagers who also helped us out quite a bit with the kids. Plus there were at least six adults who helped during the week...

  • Fun and guilt at the Tri-County Fair

    Dick Geary, Columnist|Updated Jul 24, 2018

During the loose hay years, we kids would get a respite of four days, and that was the tri-county fair in Deer Lodge. It was the high point of our summer. We were in 4-H, so we always had a project, and the custom was to take it to the fair to be judged. Our father ran a farm flock of about 100 ewes, so it was usual to have a lamb which we had tamed and fattened and groomed. Some took cattle and others took horses, but we stuck with sheep. The fair always occurred about the...

  • Opinion: I-186 harmful For Montana

    Updated Jul 24, 2018

Radical environmentalists funded by out-of-state billionaires would have Montanans believe I-186 is only about clean water, and that Montanans wrote this “citizens initiative”. They would have us believe Montana’s mining revenue and the local services it funds will continue despite new onerous regulations. Yes, all Montanans want clean water! And although Montana already has the strictest environmental laws in the nation, we should do more if we can. It is also true that if I-186 passes, it will drive mining companies f...
