    Roger Dey, BVD|Updated Oct 9, 2020

In a decision issued after the BVD went to press last week, the Montana Supreme Court stayed a Sept. 25 order by district court Judge Donald Harris that required ballots to simply be postmarked by Election Day to be counted. The decision reinstates the requirement under state law that says ballots must be in the possession of elections officials by 8 p.m. on Election Day. In his decision, Harris changed the deadline to a postmark deadline out of concern around inconsistent...

Trevor Bowman and Preston Millan, from the Missoula area, were looking for a game trail that would take them away from...

  • Youth Dynamics supports families

    Updated Oct 8, 2020

A year and a half ago, the push for Youth Dynamics to bring services to our community began. You may recall an article that was written in the BVD detailing what exactly Youth Dynamics is and what they can do for our community. At that time it was a commonly held belief that Lincoln needed these extra mental health resources. That need has become even more evident with the rise of COVID-19. COVID has caused anxiety and depression in many, and our children are being affected...

  • Lincoln Schools Superintendent Report

Jen Packer, Superintendent, Lincoln Schools|Updated Oct 8, 2020

Lincoln's school year has begun with a bang. We have nineteen new students enrolled in Kindergarten through 12th grade this year, with ten preschoolers. I believe the increase in enrollment has much to do with the fact that we are having school in-person. We are lucky that we can social distance in the classrooms and at lunch. We even have the recesses divided to keep the grades apart. The students are champions at following the CDC guidelines of hand washing and sanitizing...

  • From My Perspective

    Tammy Jordan|Updated Oct 8, 2020

Nowadays, we have labels for everything, and everyone. The labeling has separated and divided us. Instead of being human, we are now labeled based on our skin color, religious beliefs, political beliefs, sexual preference or orientation, beliefs about the environment, the friends we keep, and the hobbies we engage in. We have labels that define our status in the world based on our income. Upper class, middle class, lower class, or upper echelon, blue collar, and impoverished....

  • One more time: Rosendale, Williams try again in campaign for Congress

Aiden Morton, Community News Service UM School of Journalism|Updated Oct 8, 2020

If Montana's campaign for the state's lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives seems familiar, it's because both candidates have been here before. Democrat Kathleen Williams of Bozeman lost a House race just two years ago to Congressman Greg Gianforte, and the consequences of that defeat still rankle, she said. "It's been incredibly frustrating to see the lack of leadership and representation, frankly," said Williams, a former state legislator, about Gianforte's actions...

  • Op-Ed: Democrats ain't what they used to be

    Carl Riekmann, Eureka|Updated Oct 7, 2020

Should folks who traditionally think of themselves as Democrats consider whether the party still holds to their basic values? I have. At age 77, I remember growing up how Democrats supported moral and family values, blue-collar jobs, the freedoms of religion and speech, our Constitution. I recall Democratic presidential hopeful Adlai Stevenson putting religious and ethical values into civic issues and his messages. These values still matter to me. Yet, today, much of the Democratic Party seems to have morphed into a secular...
