Lady Lynx pound Victor 44 -15 in Friday night clash

The home court advantage didn't look like much of an advantage up to the halftime of the Jan. 3 varsity visit by the Victor Lady Pirates.

The size and skill of the Lady Lynx should have put them far ahead of the visitors but the score at mid-game was only 13-11.

"The team was very nervous before the game, hands shaking and worried faces. But at half time they all came together to fire each other up to a more intense level of play. They rallied themselves," Said Coach Kurtis Janzen.

The second half was a different story. Pounding down 31 points, the Lynx held the Pirates to only four points in the whole last half.

This huge lead opened the door for the younger freshmen ladies to get in some real playing time and the fans were delighted to see the tough game presence of Jaylin Lewenight and Jessica Zarske. At times, Zarske looked like she was auditioning for the Golden Gloves with her steely-eyed, grimacing game face, backed up with an intimidating, in-your-face defense. Zarske drew seven fouls and was regularly camped out on the Lynx free throw line.

Sage Kamps drilled a thrilling three-pointer in the third quarter. It was clear that the "nervous nelly" jitters were a distant memory. The refs called turnover changes for traveling more than twenty times, probably due to the new gym floor surface that has a different feel than the old floor for both teams. New floor, but the same old net and the Lady Lynx knew where it was.

Six-foot senior ace Alexis Cannon continues to dominate the key, adding 19 points to the Lincoln tally and pulling down most of the rebounds. Her 100 percent free throw shooting didn't hurt either. Lindsey Weisner, with her scary foghorn defense, racked up eight points and the two freshman, Zarske and Lewenight, contributed seven and four points respectively. Floor general Kamps ran the offense and made four points. Rounding out the effort was senior Maya Whittenberg, two points, and spitfire Alyvia Blotkamp with two points.
