LVCC meeting update

During the latest meeting of the Lincoln Valley Chamber of Commerce, several items were discussed.

One of the main topics on everyone's mind, and up for discussion, was the cancellation of the annual Skijoring event. The LVCC board was disappointed they weren't able to hold the event, but it came down to the safety of the animals, participants, and volunteers. The board talked about looking into other options for coming years for the event such as moving the date, and seeking out a company that may be able to run the event, which would take the pressure off of the board.

Karyn Good spoke at the meeting and provided an update on the Main Street Montana project in conjunction with Envision Lincoln. The Main Street Montana application was submitted on Dec. 31st and is waiting to hear back as to whether the application was approved. If the application is approved, it could provide additional opportunities for funding on town revitalization. Envision Lincoln has an event planned for Feb. 18 at the Community Hall and will be reaching out to area businesses and local organizations to participate.

At the prior month's meeting, Emilee Rivera spoke to the board about being the "host organization" for the Block Party Trailer. At that time she was waiting to hear back from insurance agencies with cost and coverage for the trailer. The quote that came back was discussed, however additional questions came up that will need to be addressed before the board can decide whether to move the trailer under the Chamber organization.

President Laurie Richards provided an update for the new LVCC website that has been "under construction" for several months. The new site will need some additional photos and information, but will be a much better representation for the Lincoln Chamber and the community. One of the benefits of being a Chamber member is that your business information and upcoming events will be listed on the new website. As the website moves towards its launch, more information will become available on how this will all work.

The board also discussed the theme for the 4th of July parade. Several suggestions were made and something to do with the 20's was a major contender. In addition, extra signage will be needed for the parade to be compliant with Montana Department of Transportation rules. One other item regarding the parade the committee raised was a concern about the long-standing history of throwing candy and items from moving vehicles. Due to safety, insurance and MDOT rules, it is no longer permitted, however, a designated person walking by the vehicles or floats can hand out candy and promotional items to parade goers. The Chamber is looking into working with students or other organization volunteers to help with this because it's something kids and parade attendees alike enjoy as part of the experience.

Lastly, the board discussed the Trails Day program. Marty Bannon, an avid hiker and cyclist, contacted the Chamber four years ago, when Lincoln became a CDT Gateway Community, and offered to represent the town of Lincoln at the Trails Day celebration in Silver City, N.M. He has done so each year and will be doing so again this year. Chamber member businesses are invited to submit items such as coupons and promotional materials for Marty to distribute at the event. Please drop your items off at the BVD office or at the next Chamber meeting.

The next Chamber meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Library. Community members and businesses are encouraged to attend, as it's the annual dinner. The Chamber recaps the previous years and welcomes suggestions and ideas for the good of the Chamber and the town of Lincoln.
