Time flies when you're having fun

That is exactly what American Legion Lincoln Post 9 has been doing, we have been having FUN!

It's hard to believe that a year has already passed since the last Race to the Sky. We have been involved in so many different things over the course of the year that it's hard to keep track. The best things we have been part of are always the opportunities we have to give back to the community.

We were asked to continue providing a warming house with hot beverages for spectators and team members of the Race to the Sky. We simply ask for donations to support programs at Lincoln School. This year we received donations totaling $300 and Post 9 gave an additional $200, for a final gift of $500, to help offset the cost of bringing the Missoula Children's Theatre in this year.

Another great thing about this year's race is, we got to put our new trailer to use. Thank you to Bill Whittenburg's family for donating the trailer and to Lonnie Cox for all the work to install batteries, a power converter and new LED lights! We are pretty "Uptown" these days!

Of course, we have continued to Post and Retire 83 Flags in the Lincoln area on 10 (soon to be 11) Flag Holidays. We will be adding March 29 from now on in recognition of Vietnam Veterans Day. As a reminder, the Flag Program dues are coming due in May. I'll get a letter out to all who participate in the next month or so. If anyone is interested in starting in the program, you can contact any Legion Member. The cost is $25 per year, from June to May.

Our most humbling programs are providing Military Funeral Honors for our Comrades and placing and maintaining White Cross Fatality Markers along Highway 200 and the secondary roads between mile marker 38.5 and mile marker 127.

We all certainly enjoy marching in the parades in Lincoln, Helmville and Ovando, assisting with event parking, helping with the Lincoln Bike Rally, our Annual Flag Day Celebration and Flag Disposal, Our Annual Veteran's Day Remembrance and Chili Feed and don't forget, Santa's Workshop! These are just a few community happenings that come to mind.

If you are interested in joining Lincoln Post 9, we meet at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday every month at the Senior Center. The next meeting is March 18. Stop in and see what we have going on!

We would like to thank everyone who supports Lincoln Post 9 and our endeavors. We look forward to seeing all of you throughout the year.
