They sure did look good

Lincoln American Legion Post 9 started our twentieth year of the Flag Program on Friday, May 22. We placed 83 American Flags between the Hi Sign Road and Dorothy Drive.

This year, when it came time to write the letter asking for the annual donations, Post 9 found it difficult to ask for money while seeing the hardships of the times affecting so many of our community’s businesses and residents. We decided to give back to all of you who have supported us for so many years. This year Post 9 is picking up the tab for the 83 American Flags that will fly on 11 federally recognized holidays (we added Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day).

1. Memorial Day

2. Flag Day

3. Independence Day

4. Labor Day

5. Patriots Day (Sept. 11)

6. Columbus Day

7. Armistice (Veterans) Day

8. Pearl Harbor Day

9. Martin Luther King Day

10. Presidents Day

11. Vietnam Veterans Day

Bob Sherman and Bob Armstrong started this program in 2001 for Lincoln Post 9’s annual fundraiser. The program started small and has continually grown over the years. Program participants pay $25 per year to Post 9, and we ensure there is an American Flag flying at their business, home or favorite power pole on each of 11 federally recognized holidays. We also make sure that all the flags, poles and holders are in good condition. The program runs from May 1 through April 30 each year.

American Legion, Lincoln Post 9 is always welcoming new participants. Send us a check for $25, we will gladly get you started in the program. Additionally, anyone who would like to donate to Post 9 can use the address listed below.

Be sure to watch for next year’s letter.
