FAQs for returning to school for the 2020-2021 school year

From Lincoln Public Schools

What is the first day of school?  Monday, August 24th.

When is registration?

We will be doing online registration this year. Mrs. Heisler sent an email to each of the 7th through 12th grade students. Please have your student check their email. Do not hesitate to call the school office if you have any questions.

Will the students be required to wear masks?

Governor Bullock has just released (August 2020) that schools are now included in the directive that masks will be required at all times indoors. Social distancing and barriers will not allow for removal of masks.

Will the elementary have recess?

Yes, the elementary school will have their scheduled recesses. There will be some differences in what recess will look like, such as a rotation on where the different grades are playing to keep the students in their "pods" and occasionally structured activities.

Will my student be sent home for having a cough?

Our COVID-19 Committee is continually evaluating this and following the guidance of the CDC for schools. Many things can cause a cough, including things like allergies and asthma which are not contagious. We plan to use our best judgement in determining illness.

How long will my student have to be out of school if they are sick?

If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school, it is recommended that the school close for sanitization for 2-5 days.

If your student is diagnosed with COVID-19 AND has symptoms, they may return to school once it has been 10 days since their symptoms began, and they have been without a fever for 3 days, and their respiratory symptoms have improved.

If your student is diagnosed with COVID-19 and has no symptoms, they may return to school after 10 days if they continue to have no symptoms.

If your student is sick from something contagious other than COVID-19, you will be asked to follow doctor recommendations and the guidelines we have used in previous years such as being fever free for over 24 hours before returning to school.

What if my student presents symptoms of COVID-19 while at school?

If it has been identified by staff that your student possibly has COVID-19, your student will be isolated in the sick room until a parent or guardian can pick them up. The student will be asked to stay home from school until they are 24 hours without a fever and their symptoms have improved.

Is it true that campus will be closed during lunch times?

Yes, we will have a closed campus this year. In an attempt to ensure the safest environment for students and staff, we are not allowing students to come and go during the school day. Student checkouts by parents and guardians will be allowed as the need arises for things such as medical appointments.
