The Lincoln Library to host several events in the coming months

Beginning Oct. 1, the Lewis & Clark Library – Lincoln branch will be hosting a month-long art challenge using prompts and resources from the Inktober (www.inktober.com) and Drawlloween (www.drawlloween.com) websites. The library will provide journals for people to participate.

The goal is to get people's creative juices flowing. Once participants draw for their daily prompt, they are asked to share their artwork on their Facebook and Instagram pages using the hashtags #Inktober2020 and #drawlloween2020, respectively. The library will be coordinating virtual check-ins via Zoom for people to show their artwork and have discussions.

Another way the library is encouraging patrons to be creative is through their new access to Creative Bug, an online resource for craft classes. It's open and available to library cardholders and has classes for all ages in a wide variety of subjects, including cooking, sewing, book making, journaling and more.

Also coming in October is an interactive movie night. Movies will be available on Hoopla using a library card. Kits that will be paired with movies, containing random materials to coincide with the chosen movie, will be available for pick-up at the library.

Zines virtual workshops will also be making an appearance at the library with additional information on how to participate. Library staff is still working on the best way to distribute the kits and will be announcing more information as it becomes available.

Future events at the Library include the Great American Listen in November and the Big Read in January, featuring the book "Into the Beautiful North" by Luis Alberto Urrea. They will have the book available for people to read in late December or January. A discussion with the author will take place at the end of January.

The Lewis and Clark Library Foundation, a non-profit that holds fundraisers to help the library and communities, provides funds for community events, library collections and the Big Read, to name just a few.

Library staff wants to remind patrons that the library is open and computers are available for use during library hours. The current library hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m., and Thursday, Friday and Saturday from Noon to 3 p.m. Librarian Kate Radford says they are hoping to go back to their normal hours later in the month and will announce it once they do.

For more information on any of the programming mentioned in this article, questions about the library, or to reserve a computer during current library hours, please contact the Library directly at 406-362-4300.
