Obituary: Sandy Malquist

Sandra (“Sandy”) Malquist, 78, passed away peacefully at home with her beloved family by her side Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021.

Sandy was born in Milwaukee, Wisc. on Aug. 18, 1942 to Walter and Anastasia (Daisy) Kiedrowski. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy High School in 1960. Sandy attended one year of college to pursue an English degree, but then switched to obtaining a career in cosmetology. After completing cosmetology school, she owned and managed her own salon. Sandy married Dale Malquist in April of 1969. They had 2 daughters: Darcy, born in October of 1971 and Sara in October of 1975. After Darcy’s birth, Sandy sold her salon to become a full-time mom, spending her time gardening and learning to sew.

Sandy and Dale moved with their girls to Lincoln, MT in January of 1979; they later divorced. Sandy worked at various jobs throughout her life in the community, all the while still performing homemaker duties and raising her two girls. She attended as many of their sporting events and activities as possible, and could often be heard above the crowd cheering them on through all the wins and losses.

Sandy was blessed with five grandchildren who became her pride and joy. She loved supporting them in all their sports activities and endeavors.

After her retirement, Sandy enjoyed traveling to see her two grandchildren in Nebraska; knitting, crocheting and sewing, and participating in craft shows; reading, and visiting with friends. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and remained so until the end: “How ‘bout those Packers?”

Sandy is survived by her daughters: Darcy (Logan), and Sara (Luke); her five grandchildren: Wyatt, Rhett, Maggie, Aizlynn, and Hadassah; and her beloved dogs, Koda and Katy, and her cat, who she always called “my little kitty.”

No services are planned at this time.
