Update from Lincoln Council for the Arts

With so many new faces in Lincoln, the Lincoln Council for the Arts wanted to give a small update on things they are doing in the community and remind people of ways they can get involved.

If you are a local artist and would like to be featured on our website and social media, the Arts Council would like to meet you.

Lincoln Council for the Arts meets the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the back room at Lambkins. They invite anyone interested in the arts, or those with ideas for local activities and programming, to attend.

The mission of the Council for the Arts is to enhance the quality of life through the arts. Some of the ways the organization has been able to fulfill its mission is through the support of the community and artists locally, regionally and throughout the United States.

In recent years, the Council has provided activities for local children, including concerts, engagement in the arts and the annual Santa's Workshop, where students pay a small fee to make several gifts to give at the holidays. For several years the Council has brought in the Missoula Children's Theater to work with the kids in the school in performing arts.

Other activities supported by the organization include the annual Art and Music Festival, held the second weekend in August at Hooper Park and boasting more than 40 artisans and musicians from around the state. They also hold a barn dance to kick off the Art Festival weekend and provide dance instruction to the students at the school for the event.

The Council has also worked collaboratively with other local Lincoln organizations including the Upper Blackfoot Valley Historical Society, the Lincoln Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Blackfoot Valley Optimist Club, Blackfoot Pathways: Sculpture in the Wild, Lincoln PTSO, the Lincoln Fiber Circle and others to raise funds, awareness and activities for adults and children in Lincoln. Last year, when Santa's Workshop had to be cancelled, the Council worked with several local businesses and community organizations to create Take & Make Kits and a visit with Santa.

The Council now needs the support of our community and input from artists, local families and businesses on partnerships and support opportunities, as well as ideas for what the community would like to see from them in the future. In the past they have held a movie series, book talks and brought in entertainment from out-of-town.

For more information, to submit ideas, or to get involved, please contact Tammy Jordan at 406-633-0073 / [email protected] or Laura Butler at [email protected] or attend the next scheduled meeting Monday, Nov. 15.
