Lady Little Lynx showcase the next generation

In a hastily scheduled pickup game that left the bleachers only partiality filled, the Lincoln Junior High ladies took on the Darby Lady Tigers on Saturday afternoon, March 5 on the Lynx home court.

The junior high squads, made up of 4th, 5th, 6th and junior high age players, are a window into things to come. Despite the score, the top athletes get a chance to showcase their stuff and give the hometown fans a reason to hope that good things are coming down the pike in future years.

And "good things" are definitely on deck. Hailey Smith, talented daughter of coach Shane Smith, poured in 17 points in the A-team contest, more than half of the total team score. Even though the Little Lynx ladies lost 30-50,

they were competitive for 3 of the 4 quarters and were actually tied before the half.

Even though she is not technically a junior high player, sixth grader Kaitlyn Brown added nine to the A-team tally, including a three-pointer. Her reverse, over the shoulder desperation shot swished through the net at the buzzer, amazing herself and the crowd! Love those buzzer-beaters!

In the B-team game of younger players, Brown was again a high-point scorer with eight points in the 19 - 24 loss to Darby. She was aided in her romp by Kaya Butterfield who shows promise with her physical defense and rebounding, adding seven to the total score. The young ladies are maturing, getting more physical and confident as they go to summer basketball camps and grow into a competitive squad. We can't wait to see them next fall, taller, stronger and tougher.
