Spring Awards Night packed with praise

Dozens of Lincoln High School students were recognized for academic, character and athletic excellence Thursday, May 9 in the school gym.

The Heisey Award, given for improved leadership, character and academic effort was given to two students this year: Maya Whittenburg and Andrea LaManna.

These coveted awards also come with a $200 cash gift.

Academic awards included: Outstanding Science Student: Alexis Cannon; Outstanding History and English student: Maggie Jorgensen; Journalism award: Jaken Shelton; Outstanding Writing Student: Sage Kamps; Craftsmanship Award: Jager Vossler; Business & Technology Awards: Maya Whittenburg and Makenzie Storey; Math Student of the Year: Bridger Kamps; Outstanding Artist of the Year: Maya Whitenburg; National Honor Society awards went to Carly Templeton, Makenzie Storey and Lindsey Weisner.

Maya Whittenburg was also recognized for receiving a national PTA award in Visual Arts for her Reflections entry, a painting of her father.

Lincoln High School, one of the smallest class C schools in Montana with an enrollment of about 40 students, saw 90 percent of its population participating in at least one sport or extra-curricular club. Coaches in football, volleyball, basketball, and track had many encouraging remarks for their athletes in addition to numerous awards to the MVP players, most improved player and most inspirational competitors. 13-C "All Conference" athletic awards were given to Nathan Brown for basketball, Maggie Jorgensen for basketball and volleyball.

Track recognitions went to Aziah Blotkamp (pole vault) and Maggie Jorgensen (long and triple jumps) for their records in the season so far.
