Blackfoot Challenge hosting wildfire walk

The Blackfoot Challenge and Pure Montana Tails is hosting “Fire on the Mountain: Effects of wildfire on forests and wildfire,” a walk through areas of the Rice Ridge fire north of Ovando, July 25.

The excursion begins at 9 a.m. at the Monture Guard Station, seven miles north of Ovando on Monture Creek Road.

Lolo National Forest biologists Scott Tomson and Shane Hendrickson will lead the walk-through areas of differing burn severity to discuss fire history and to look at the effects of fire on plants, animals and the forest. The walk will also include a look at salvage logging operations.

Fore more intormation on the walk, contact Blackfoot Challenge Education Coordinator Elaine Caton at [email protected] or at 406-793-3900.
