Deputy's Log Aug. 25-31

Lewis and Clark County 911 Center received seventeen Calls for Service in the Lincoln area during the week of Sept. 1 through Sept. 7. Two of those Calls for Service were traffic stops performed in and around the Lincoln area by deputies.

No calls for service last week generated a case report. Other calls for service in the Lincoln area were one abandon vehicle, two citizen assists, one criminal mischief, one domestic disturbance, one false alarm, one family issue, one fraud reported, two road hazards, one suspicious circumstance, and three welfare checks. Lincoln Ambulance responded to one medical call last week.

It seems to never stop! The scam calls that is. We received a report last week that someone had received one of those pesky scam calls right here in Lincoln trying to get their money.

There are a number of types of scam calls but one of the most prevalent one we see is the IRS call. It will usually start with an automated message trying to get you to either stay on the line or call back because your social security number as been hacked or you owe them money. The IRS will not handle these situations in these ways.

If someone wants you to buy gift cards to pay over the phone, SCAM! If someone says they will give you a check to cash and then send some back to them, SCAM!

Remember, trust your gut, if it seems weird it probably is.  You can always hang up right away and call local law enforcement to ask about scams in the area.
