Mountaintop Musings: A Hopeful Time of Year, Redux

Father Time just keeps moving along doesn't He?

Here we are facing 2020 in just another week. Over the past few years I have found it a bit harder to keep moving along. My knees and hips hurt, arthritis is in my neck, lung capacity is not what it used to be, yes, this aging thing is a challenge! But Father Time, well He keeps running strong every year, and in fact it seems to me He is getting faster and faster. I imagine many of you reading this feel the same way. For those who don't, well give it "time" and you will understand! As the old saying goes if I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself when I was younger! Well am thankful that the good Lord has given me the time He has, and I hope He gives me many more years to fulfill His call on my life. I know that as a believer in Jesus, whose birth we celebrate today, I have a great retirement plan when it is time to punch out my final timecard.

Just think no taxes to pay, no cars or trucks to repair, no pinched nerves, knees that creak or family arguments to mediate. Sounds good. I think not having to deal with the insanity of modern-day politics will be a wonderful thing. Speaking of which, I would vote to impeach 90 percent of Congress if I could, how about you? And yes, some would vote to impeach our President because they do not like his policies, wait they already did that! What a debacle we have been forced to endure.

This three-year quest to undo the 2016 election reminds me of an event that happened many years ago in our living room. We had company over and were having a nice time. A good meal, followed by talking, children playing. Then one of our boys got in to trouble. He wanted something, but we said no. So, he was standing on the seat of a chair, and in his anger over being denied what he wanted, he threw himself off the chair and belly-flopped on the floor. Well we were all shocked. He was hurt and crying, and I imagine his Dad gave him a few swats and a time-out for his inappropriate behavior. Then we had a bit of a chuckle as we rehashed the incident.

Our son did not get his way, and in fact he got some pain, embarrassment and a chance to sit and think about his selfish and childish behavior. Well with Christmas recess about to begin for our illustrious House of Representatives and Senate I hope they take advantage of this time-out and embarrassment (especially the House) of "impeachment" and the super-sized pork infested budget they have passed (which it galls me the President will most likely sign!), and try to remember that they are supposed to be governing the Nation for Us! We the People matter, and it is past time that our elected officials, local, state and federal remember that.

The potential good news is we have an election year coming (oh joy! Argh) and we get to do it all again. I wonder if the governing bodies of the States and Federal Branches took a year or two off would anyone miss them? Now I am not for anarchy, but things sure get frustrating. But hey, a new year is coming, and I have hope, how about you?

Until nest time, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
