Mountain Cats edge Lady Lynx in nail-biter

Basketball is not for the faint of heart in Lincoln these days. The tied up games and intense last seconds on the floor remind fans of the old Bette Davis line from “All About Eve” - “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night.”

Saturday, Jan. 4 was indeed a bumpy night for the Lady Lynx in their shoot out with the lady Mountain Cats of Superior/Alberton. With the score tied up at the end of the third quarter, fans and players alike both looked worn out. The Mountain Cats ran a never-ending full court press on every Lincoln possession that was a challenge for the Lady Lynx to break.

Lincoln sophomore Alyvia Blotkamp poured in some of her reliable three-pointers, but the Mountain Cats answered with their own three point shooters and it was difficult for the local ladies to get ahead on the scoreboard.

The Lynx had a red hot third quarter, out scoring Superior 16 - 10, but they only put up one point in the fourth period and the final tally was a sweaty loss for the hometown ladies, 31 - 34.

Blotkamp posted high-energy stats: seven points, seven steals and three rebounds; Lindsey Weisner’s 10-decibel defense earned her six points; floor general Sage Kamps made four points and two rebounds, in between taking a flurry of elbows from the opponents; and freshman Jessica Zarske,

( “I dare you to get in my way”) with her intimidating fast drives through the Superior defenders brought down four rebounds. Six-foot Alexis Cannon was the Lynx high scorer with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Injured Lady Lynx Jenna Templeton is scheduled to be back in her uniform for the home game against Seeley Lake, Jan. 11.
