Open Letter to the community of Lincoln

The Lincoln Valley Chamber of Commerce extends its apologies for having to cancel the annual Skijoring event for 2020.

January 2 was our deadline to commit to Skijor America whether we would be able to host the event or not. Due to slick and icy conditions of the field where the track was to be set up along with low snow predictions, the Chamber board made the decision to cancel Skijor Lincoln.

According to Bill Cyr, owner of the field where Skijoring takes place, it was not a safe environment to have the event. Even after the first heavy snow, which was after the deadline, he had a pregnant mare go down in the field and lost its foal.

The safety of the horses, competitors and our volunteers is our most important concern. We do hope to see the event take place in 2021 and are looking at options to make this possible.

We appreciate the support of the Lincoln community and our sponsors who sent in money for the event and will be returning those sponsor funds by mail within the next couple of weeks.

Best Regards,

The LVCC Board
