High school tech class aims to improve Lincoln School website

Lincoln Public Schools introduced a new class this semester to manage the school's website.

Four students will be working with technology teacher Laura Allen-Bullis to update and refresh the website and content. "The students are really excited to make it better," she said.

The students have already begun work on the website.

"We looked at Class C school websites and discussed what we liked and what we didn't, what we need and don't," said Allen-Bullis. The students really like the Philipsburg School website and have identified several aspects they think might work well on the Lincoln School website.

One aspect students are working on is a plan to create a staff page with pictures of the teachers. They also plan to make the website more friendly overall. One of the biggest complaints Allen-Bullis has received about the website is how hard it is for the community find the calendar, so students will be working on improving navigation features for the website. They will also need to find ways to keep the website up-to-date with material that changes quickly, like sports schedules.

Allen-Bullis hopes the class will build into a cross-curriculum project in the future. She's thinking about potentially working with the art class to provide photos for the website and finding more opportunities to work with other teachers and students.

The new version of the website will be mobile-responsive, making it easier to access from cell phones.

Allen-Bullis has already worked with students to provide content to the Lincoln Valley Chamber of Commerce, which links to the school's website.

"We want to make the community aware that we're making it a priority," she said.
