Junior High Lady Lynx end season with a bang

The Saturday morning tournament of multiple schools who brought their junior high teams to Lincoln had some new twists and turns for all the fans.

Starting at 9 a.m., the teens running the concession stand made a land office business of selling donuts and maple bars out in the stands, and the eye-opening coffee was extra strong.

The Lincoln Little Lynx A-team made the first bucket in the contest against the Fairfield junior high Eagles and Lincoln led all the way to the wire, winning 16 - 12.

It wasn't an easy victory; Fairfield battled back within one point with one minute left, but a crucial basket by Kylee Copenhaver and a successful free throw from her younger sib, Makena, put the Little Lynx ahead for good. Sister power!

The 'courage' award of the tournament went to 4-foot-7 Jordyn Zarske, a fifth grader, who squared off and took a charge that sent her flying against a driving 5-foot-6'" Lady Eagle, who out-weighed her by 40 pounds. That's the grit that winners are made of and this team had plenty of it.

High point Lady Lynx was Kylee Copenhaver who had six, her sister Makena who added three and Krymzen Dempster, who is always on the leader board, with four. Hailey Smith and Andrea Weisner also contributed to the totals and to the in-your-face defense.
