A chance to dance

Lincoln teens got a little return to normalcy this year at the Lincoln High School Prom Friday evening.

The original plan for the dance was to host it outside at the Hooper Park pavilion, to allow the kids a bit more freedom without the need for masks. Although rainy weather forced the festivities indoors at the school gym, the announcement that Lewis and Clark Public Health would no longer be enforcing the county mask mandate prompted a decision to forego masks at the dance.

Last year, the school closure related to the COVID-19 pandemic forced the school to scrap last years annual formal dance.

"I was so excited to do that last year, because my class was in charge of planning it and everything. It didn't happen and that's OK," said Lincoln High senior Lindsey Weisner, who was also crowned as Prom queen. "I'm glad I get to have it for my senior year."

Junior Class advisor Joannie Templeton said the whole goal for the night was for the students to have fun and enjoy themselves.

"Its definitely exciting because we didn't get one last year," said junior Damion Birkholz, whose class planned the prom this year. "We're finally getting one accepted. I'ts nice to actually have something."

"I'm really happy that we can (have prom) with everything that's been going on," Weisner said. "It's like something normal to bring back. Its really nice to have a dance."
