Intersection enhancements proposed for Helena Valley

Helena - The Montana Department of Transportation would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to install safety improvements at three sites around the Helena Valley. The proposed work includes adding safety measures at the following three sites:

SITE 1 – Prospect Ave & Gibbon St Intersection – Remove the Gibbon St southbound left-turn movement and replace the left-turn bay with raised concrete refuge island for pedestrians. Install ladder-style crosswalk and new pedestrian warning signs for southbound vehicles on Gibbon St. Install pedestrian warning signs for eastbound to northbound left-turning vehicles on Prospect Ave, placed in the raised median.

SITE 2 – Lincoln Rd & Glass Dr Intersection – Install 1-2 luminaires for designation lighting. Install north and southbound oversized stop signs with "Cross Traffic Does Not Stop" plaques. Add new north and southbound stop bars. Install east and westbound intersection warning signs with street name plaques.

SITE 3 – Lincoln Rd & Hauser Dam Rd Intersection – Install a vehicle-activated, solar-powered sign warning eastbound vehicles about upcoming stop condition. Install inlaid warning stripes in roadway. Upgrade existing double-sided arrow sign.

The purpose of the project is to address pedestrian/bicycle and intersection crashes. Construction is tentatively planned for 2022 depending on completion of design and availability of funds.

An important part of properly planning for future projects is partnering with the community.
