There's no nail-biting, tense show-down in the current win streak of junior high Little Lynx boys basketball games this month, but there are plenty of entertaining moments to entice the fans to come out in support of the team.
The "Big and Tall" club of Roegun Dietz, Kayden Tybo and Josh Rios was bigger and taller in the Nov. 18 crushing defeat of Drummond, posting a 58 - 31 win against a visiting squad that fielded twice the number of players as the young home team.
Ahead at half time, 30 - 13, the Lynx men settled down to put on an athletic show for the crowd that included tricky steals, swarming defense and courageous drives straight to the bucket. Athletic Director Shane Brown said the team wanted this win "real bad" and they stayed focused until the final buzzer.
Floor general Kayden Tybo posted a triple-double for the stat book: 11 steals, 10 rebounds and 39 points. Six-foot Roegun Dietz pulled down 15 rebounds and poured in 17 points; Josh Rios used his size and strength to claim the territory under the basket for the Lynx, adding seven rebounds and two points. Elijah Barnett was proud of his fouls at the end of the game, proving that even if you are only 4-foot, 9-inches you can't be pushed around!
With only four legitimate junior high age boys, the team needed the help of elementary students from 4th thru 6th grade: Ty Feeback, Wyatt Kirby and Mark Arthur and Jaxson Meeks, who were getting on-the-court suggestions and encouragement from Tybo and Dietz, proving the adage: There's no "I" in team.
