Senior Night win winds up regular season for Lady Lynx

The bleachers were full to wit-ness the emotional goodbye ritual of "Senior Night" on Feb. 12 in the last home game of the regular basketball season. As a special gift to the only senior player, Jenna Templeton, the Lincoln Lady Lynx pounded out a decisive win over the Victor Lady Pirates, 43 - 32, sending Jenna off to college with memories of victory dancing in her head.

Taking the lead in the game from tip off to final buzzer, the mini-squad of six players (five high school hoopsters and one amazing 8th grader, Makena Copenhaver) triumphed over Victor in points, defense and attitude. Kylee Copenhaver took a full body charge in the second half that knocked her to the floor and brought the crowd cheering to its feet.

Victor tried every scheme in the play book from full-court press to double teaming Lady Lynx shooters, but nothing seemed to work for them. With a full bench resting their starters, the Lady Pirates tried to wear out the Lincoln gals, who could only sub in one reserve player, Andrea Weisner. But even that plan did not give them any advan-tage.

High point scorers for the Lynx were Kylee Copenhaver and Jenna Templeton.

The Victor Lady Pirates got their revenge at the Frenchtown 13C district tournament in the second round game against Lincoln, beating the Lady Lynx by seven points, 30 - 37. It was a close contest with a tied up score several times during the 32 minutes, but when both Templeton and Kylee Copenhaver fouled out in the fourth period, the dye was cast.

But the Lynx smiles never stopped shining. Jess Zarske canned four free throws in the last minute of the game to let everyone know, "We'll be back next year!"
