Stacey Mannix invited local fiber artist Tammy Jordan to her 5th grade classroom Thursday, April 14 to teach students how to needle-felt an Easter egg, just in time for the upcoming Easter holiday weekend.
Thirteen students created their own rendition of a decorated egg using dyed wool from Jordan's sheep and a sharp instrument called a felting needle.
Jordan explained how the wool was processed and how she used dyes to create the various colors for students to use in their felting process. Some students designed fluffy eggs with lots of character and others were very focused and created very detailed art.
This is the third year Jordan has been in Mannix' class teaching various felting techniques. This past December, she showed students how to create Christmas ornaments using wool, and in prior years has taught students to create needle-felted sheep.
