International Sculpture Day at BPSW

Blackfoot Pathways: Sculpture in the Wild recognizes International Sculpture Day

Most of the visitors to Sculpture in the Wild Saturday were unaware it was International Sculpture Day but seemed delighted to find out they had chosen to visit Lincoln's sculpture park on the unofficial holiday.

International Sculpture Day falls on the last Saturday in April every year. It was set up by the International Sculpture Center as a worldwide celebration of sculpture and to increase appreciation and enjoyment of sculpture in communities around the globe.

Although Garland was offering hourly tours of the park, visitors chose to explore the park on their own. Nevertheless, she answered questions from several guests, discussed the history Sculpture in the Wild and how it came to be in Lincoln, and gave them suggestions on how to best explore the trails.

Things are shaping up for Sculpture in the Wild this year. The utility building that will house a first aid station, the parks electric golf cart and serve as storage for other equipment is nearly finished and the schedule for this summer's Music in the Wild series at the Tepee burner is almost full.

This fall, Northern Cheyenne artist Bently Spang is slated for the residency in September. Span was initially scheduled fora residency in 2020, but had to it back in both 2020 and 2021 due to COVID and a backlog of projects.
