Letter: Appreciative of Teresa

To the Editor,

Every now and then you read a letter in the BVD about an outstanding person in Lincoln! This letter is about someone we all know. Her name is Teresa Sutton and she has touched each and everyone of our lives.

Working at the Post Office, Teresa is often the first person that people will meet when they move to Lincoln. She is a welcoming ambassador for our town. She supplies them with a PO box and a wealth of information about our town! Teresa is warm hearted, with a huge smile, treats each and every person who come through that door with dignity and respect! Not only is she the first person that new people meet, I think she's also their first friend!

Have to mail a package with breakable items and you're not sure how to do it? Teresa will help you! Need to mail an item but don't have much money? Teresa will help you find the most economical way to get it there! Forgot to bring your tape? Teresa will help you! These are not services provided at the Post Office in big cities. Teresa goes above and beyond with every customer who comes through the door.

Christmas season is brutal on postal employees. Yet Teresa does it with a smile and a kind word for all of us. I'm sure by the time the season is over she must be exhausted!

However, Teresa doesn't slow down. Volunteer work with many organizations is something Teresa does year-round and she makes it look easy! She's always in the background working at these events, never taking credit for all she does!

Sometime this year, Teresa says she will retire from the Post Office. And her husband John & Teresa might move from Lincoln to be by their kids and grandkids! I am very happy for them! But at the same time, it makes me sad because our town will never be the same without the Suttons! They are such bright lights! I am proud to call Teresa my friend!

So next time you're in the Post Office think about that lady in the office there who makes our world go around! Stop in and give her on of your own smiles and a kind word! Can't tell you how many she's given me through all these years!

Ellie Schouten, Lincoln
