Upcoming programs, events top PTSO meeting discussions

The Lincoln PTSO met Monday, Jan 6 to discuss several items and upcoming events.

First on the list was the upcoming Missoula Children’s Theater program scheduled at the school April 20-25. MCT will get the children ready to perform Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The school is still looking for volunteers to help each evening with the rehearsals as there is no grant to pay staff as had been done in the past. If you are interested in volunteering and helping out, contact Lincoln school at 362-4201.

Annette Gardner approached the PTSO to see if they would be interested in sponsoring the Imagination Library again and they agreed. The Imagination Library began 15 months ago and since then, 43 local children, ages 0-5 have received 386 books. At the time of the meeting there was enough money from sponsors to pay for about three more months of books.

Local sponsors of the Imagination Library include the Lincoln PTSO, Lincoln Council for the Arts, Citizens Alliance Bank and the Lincoln Telephone Company. Gardner is always seeking additional assistance to continue the program for the youth of the community. If you, your business, or organization is interested in assisting with sponsoring part of this program, contact her at the school by calling 362-4201.

Other upcoming events for the school the PTSO is helping with financially include the Read It program in February and March, the Geography Bee, the Elementary Ski Trip, and the Speaker for the Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs, Training. In addition, the PTSO is planning to host a Kindness Assembly during Kindness Week, from Feb. 10-13.

Lincoln’s Librarian Kate Radford and Lincoln School Librarian Joanie Templeton spoke about working together to encourage reading. The Lewis & Clark Library is currently in the middle of their Winter Reading Challenge, and in February the kids will be participating in a reading challenge through the school. In March, the school will host Read it Night with a Dr. Seuss theme and students who participated in both reading challenges will have the chance to have their name drawn to “pie” one of the librarians in the face.

Nancy Schwalm, Lincoln’s science teacher, who also co-teaches the Montana History class, approached the PTSO to inquire about funding for the upcoming Montana History Field Trip to Yellowstone National Park. The students in the Montana History class will be putting together a presentation for the PTSO which will be done at a future meeting.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 3 in the School Library. For more information about the PTSO, contact PTSO President, Melody McDonough at 406-461-5001.
